Story:
Mononoke: The Crimson Mask
In a far corner of Edo-era Japan, nestled between mist-laden mountains and forgotten shrines, a cursed village sleeps beneath the shadow of a crimson moon. They call it Yorishima, a place that vanished from maps long ago—where time seems frozen, and spirits refuse to pass on.
When travelers enter, they do not return. Whispers speak of a Mask Maker, a woman who once carved masks from the bones of her lost child—each one capturing a soul and feeding her grief. Now, her creations walk the streets by night, faceless and silent.
Into this tale steps the Medicine Seller, with his golden eyes and katana sealed in sacred talismans. Drawn by the scent of mononoke, he finds the village locked in a timeless ritual, where no one remembers who they were—only the mask they wear.
To exorcise the mononoke, he must uncover its Katachi (Form), Makoto (Truth), and Kotowari (Reason). But the Mask Maker’s sorrow runs deeper than the mountain roots, and the truth is layered in centuries of illusion. The mononoke is not merely a spirit—it is the village itself, caught in an endless performance of its own tragedy.
As the crimson moon rises for the hundredth time, the Medicine Seller faces a choice: break the cycle and destroy the mononoke—or wear the final mask himself, and disappear into the story forever.
